The Harbinger Foundation is a small Toronto-based family foundation. A harbinger is a forerunner or person who pioneers or initiates a major change. Since 1995 the Foundation has sought to become a catalyst for sustainable change through partnerships with innovative charitable organizations. The Foundation funds locally but its interests are global. We are dedicated to improving quality of life by increasing access to clean water and sanitation in areas of extreme poverty. In addition, the Foundation recognizes and celebrates the sacred and life affirming role that water plays in all life. The scale of the global water and particularly the sanitation crisis is shocking and almost unfathomable to us who have the privilege of turning on taps all over our houses full of clean water and our pick of “thrones” on which to sit.
800 million people lack access to clean drinking water 2.5 Billion people have no access to sanitation In addition, even in Canada, 70% of aboriginal communities have major water quality issues.
