In 2005 the Board of the Harbinger Foundation agreed to pursue a new granting initiative, access to clean water and sanitation in areas of extreme poverty. We have spent the past few years immersed in research and looking for a place where a small foundation could make a difference.

Current granting strategy:

  1. Capacity Building for Canadian NGOs (on hold)

    To help support qualified Canadian NGOs to increase their learning around international water and sanitation issues through collection of best practices, networking, educating staff etc. There is a major emphasis with these grants on the sharing of information.

  2. Leadership development/Capacity building for Canadian NGOs focusing on water issues that are national in scope. (closed)

    To help provide core funding to support emerging leaders in the Canadian national water sector.

  3. International Water and Sanitation Projects (on hold)

    At the Harbinger Foundation we feel it is crucial to provide some core funding for organizational development, it is also critical to stay involved with some on the ground projects. As with the other programs, our funding here is very limited and there is a very strong emphasis on sharing learnings.

    At the Harbinger Foundation we are also looking for opportunities to celebrate water and to bring to attention the joy and pleasure it brings to our lives.
